{"id":321,"date":"2025-12-27T12:59:00","date_gmt":"2025-12-27T12:59:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/olivenewsnetwork.com\/?p=321"},"modified":"2026-02-02T13:32:25","modified_gmt":"2026-02-02T13:32:25","slug":"igad-extends-support-to-somalia-rejects-israels-unilateral-recognition-of-breakaway-region","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/olivenewsnetwork.com\/index.php\/2025\/12\/27\/igad-extends-support-to-somalia-rejects-israels-unilateral-recognition-of-breakaway-region\/","title":{"rendered":"IGAD extends support to Somalia, rejects Israel&#8217;s unilateral recognition of breakaway region"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wp-block-post-excerpt\"><p class=\"wp-block-post-excerpt__excerpt\">Intergovernmental Authority on Development warns any unilateral recognition of Somaliland would violate UN Charter, Constitutive Act of African Union, and legal framework establishing IGAD <\/p><\/div>\n\n\n<p>By Sadik Kedir<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia (AA) \u2014 The Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), a regional political and development bloc in Africa, reaffirmed its support for Somalia&#8217;s unity and territorial integrity on Saturday, amid reports of shifting diplomatic ties in the Horn of Africa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In a statement, the IGAD Secretariat cited \u201crecent developments\u201d related to the reported recognition of Somaliland by Israel, signaling concern over actions it said could challenge the internationally recognized borders of member states.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The secretariat said Somalia remains a sovereign IGAD member state whose territorial boundaries are fully recognized under international law.
