{"id":268,"date":"2025-12-20T06:24:00","date_gmt":"2025-12-20T06:24:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/olivenewsnetwork.com\/?p=268"},"modified":"2026-02-02T12:09:34","modified_gmt":"2026-02-02T12:09:34","slug":"systematic-attacks-against-civilians-by-sudans-rsf-will-not-go-unpunished-african-union-envoy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/olivenewsnetwork.com\/index.php\/2025\/12\/20\/systematic-attacks-against-civilians-by-sudans-rsf-will-not-go-unpunished-african-union-envoy\/","title":{"rendered":"Systematic attacks against civilians by Sudan\u2019s RSF \u2018will not go unpunished\u2019: African Union envoy"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>African Union envoy meets chairman of Sudan\u2019s Transitional Sovereignty Council, says perpetrators of attacks on civilians will not escape accountability<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>By Adel Abdelrheem and Rania Abu Shamala<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>KHARTOUM, Sudan\/ ISTANBUL (AA) \u2013 The African Union envoy to Sudan, Mohamed Belaiche, said Friday that \u201csystematic\u201d attacks against civilians by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) \u201cwill not go unpublished.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Belaiche delivered a message to chairman of Sudan\u2019s Transitional Sovereignty Council Abdel Fattah al-Burhan from African Union Commission Chairperson Mahmoud Ali Youssouf during a meeting in Port Sudan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe systematic attacks against civilians, the killing of innocents, and the destruction of civilian infrastructure by the RSF are condemned acts in the strongest terms,\u201d he said in comments carried by the state news agency SUNA.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cTheir perpetrators will not escape accountability.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The AU envoy said his meeting with Burhan was \u201ca valuable opportunity to consult on the most effective ways to advance national, regional, and international efforts to secure stability and security in Sudan,\u201d describing the country as pivotal to the region and a cornerstone of the pan-African organization.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Belaiche said he listened to the views of the Sudanese leadership on the situation and prospects for a solution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He affirmed the AU commitment to supporting Sudan\u2019s sovereignty and unity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThere is no room for the presence of any parallel institution on Sudanese soil,\u201d he said, underlining the importance of a peaceful political solution to the conflict in Sudan through an inclusive national dialogue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In another meeting, Belaiche met with Sudanese Prime Minister Kamal Idris, according to SUNA.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Idris said the Sudanese government welcomes all efforts aimed at achieving peace, security and stability in the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sudanese authorities, along with UN and international human rights organizations, accuse the RSF of committing crimes against humanity and human rights violations, including killings, torture, looting, and shelling of civilian facilities, schools and hospitals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Of Sudan\u2019s 18 states, the RSF controls all five states of the Darfur region in the west, except for some northern parts of North Darfur that remain under army control.
